City Commission Starts Finalizing Budget

By John Hayden

Like all municipal governments in Florida, Wilton Manors must pass a balanced budget by the end of the month.

On Sept. 12, the city commission began finalizing some of the numbers.

They approved the fire assessment at $351.56 per household. That is an increase over last year due to increases in the contract with Fort Lauderdale. Jenada Isle residents pay a special assessment annually for their gate and maintenance. The rate for FY26 is $37.28.

Commissioners also voted on a tentative millage rate of 6.3931, which most homeowners will find to be about the same as last year. However, their final number will likely be lower than the TRIM notice, as commissioners lowered the proposed millage rate since the notices went out. The tentative total budget is $65,791,826 with the general fund comprising $26,549,937.

The final public hearing on the budget and millage rate is set for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 6:30 p.m.

Friday's Furry Friend

At 9 years old, Lucy (ID 705140) is hoping someone will take her home. Her owner died of Alzheimer’s and now Lucy is all alone. This beautiful Rottweiler mix loves people of all ages and was always by her owner’s side. She is a loyal and loving gal who needs a home to spend her golden years. The volunteers have said she walks great on a leash, knows a few commands, and loves belly rubs. Lucy needs a home that is feline free, and a dog meet is recommended. She is a little stiff getting up, but a good joint supplement may help with this. Can Lucy be your BFF?
