Wilton Manors Survey Shows Residents Feel Safe; City Approves New 50-Unit Townhome Project

By John Hayden

Wilton Manors’ slogan is “Life’s Just Better Here,” and the city’s residents seem to agree.

During the June 10 city commission meeting, results of an online survey were released. Five questions related to the responsiveness of city staff found between 50%-57% responded “satisfied."

The city-produced Town Crier was by far the most popular way respondents learn about Wilton Manors happenings, with 69%. Police and Fire/EMS each broke 50% satisfied, with 90% saying they feel safe or very safe in the city.

However, the love doesn’t extend to the city commission or the city manager’s office.

The commission has a 23% dissatisfied rating, while the city manager’s office sees a 12% dissatisfaction rate.

Vice Mayor Chris Caputo noted that dissatisfaction is up compared to similar surveys conducted in 2018 and 2014. The results also show what many already know: the city is associated with LGBTQ.

The survey was voluntary and respondents skewed older, 71% were ages 55+ and no one under 25 participated.

Time For Townhomes

Commissioners also gave final approval to development plans at NE 26th St. and NE 15th Ave. The project calls for 50 units, each three or four bedrooms, and developers hope to have residents moving in during the first quarter of 2027.
