Stonewall Pride in Wilton Manors: A Guide to Security, Entry, and Staying Cool
By John Hayden
|
|
|
Stonewall Pride is this weekend in Wilton Manors. Much has been (and will be) written about the political climate and how the LGBTQ community must rise to meet the moment.
But, be it a party, a protest, or a little bit of both, here is a quick guide to getting in, being seen and being heard.
Security
For the first time, walk-through metal detectors (similar to the ones at airports) will be used at all entrances.
Do not bring weapons and be prepared to have your bags searched.
The Wilton Manors Police Department is working with other law enforcement groups to monitor potential threats and share information. While specifics on this year’s security are not disclosed, past years have seen rooftop snipers, drones, and plain clothed officers amongst the crowd.
Getting In
Gates open at 3 p.m. (Glow Night Parade at 8 p.m.) with entrances by Tropics, LIT, and NE 6th Ave. by the main stage.
For the second year, festival entry is cashless. Admission is $13 at the door or $10 in advance. You can buy “advance” tickets even while standing in line or approaching the gate.
Eat & Drink
Many restaurants and bars will be providing sidewalk service. Some places, especially outdoor spots, may be cash only to keep the line moving. Some food trucks will be brought in, but alcohol remains under the purview of Wilton Drive establishments.
Forecast
Per The Weather Channel, it will feel like 96F with 68% humidity and some cloud cover, with a 24% chance of rain at some point.
Essentially: It’s hot. It’s humid. It might rain. Bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic beverages. Also, wearing a hat may not be a bad idea.

The thief was brazen, cavalier, and quick. New surveillance video released by the Wilton Manors Police Department shows the Rainbow Manatee being knocked off its pedestal at Justin Flippen Park by a shirtless man, who quickly picks it up and skates away.

Three-year-old, handsome Meechi (ID 698608) needs a loving home.
His owner had to move out of the country and was not able to take him along. Meechi loves sitting in the window to watch the outside world and is always looking for birds, bugs, and lizards. This fellow will let you know when it is time to be fed, he can be vocal for food and when he greets you. If you’re looking for a lap cat, he could be the fellow for you. Meechi does have a heart murmur, and we think that is why he is getting passed by. He has no symptoms associated with heart disease and chest x-rays were performed which showed clear lungs and heart size at the high end of normal. We just want his new family to be aware of this condition. Thanks to our friends at J.R. Dunn Jewelers, they have kindly paid Meechi’s adoption fee.

Happy Pride! The full moon in Capricorn invites us to reflect on the journey we've traversed — the struggles we've overcome and the resilience we've cultivated. We honor those who paved the way, facing adversity with courage and strength, transforming hardship into empowerment. This moment encourages us to shed old masks and false personas that once helped us survive, allowing our true selves to emerge confidently. With clarity and hope illuminating our path, we stand proudly authentic, embracing our identities under the expansive, loving gaze of the universe. Let this day be a celebration of liberation, self-expression, and the radiant light of our authentic selves shining bright.
