Puppy Love At Fort Lauderdale Theater March 1

By John Hayden

The wagging tails, the goofy grins, the eyes that stare deep into your soul. Dogs win your hearts before you know what licked you.

Now you can have that experience for 85 minutes during a special screening of “Life In the Doghouse,” one of the most heartfelt doggie documentaries ever.

“We hope that all of our LGBT community will be there to support our movie,” Ron Danta said.

He, along with his husband Dan Robertshaw, star in the film that documents their highly successful attempt to save thousands of dogs.

The event is Saturday, March 1, at Savor Cinema in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are only $25, and include a reception at 6 p.m. The screening starts at 7 p.m. and is followed by a Q&A with Danta and Robertshaw.

The couple has their rescue in South Carolina, but South Florida is an integral part of their mission. Their love of horses helps fund their passion for rescue. They spend a lot of time in Weston’s equine community. While their lives are fun and full of love, they also have to be “alphas” 24 hours a day.

“Something we’ve learned is that we have to be the pack leaders,” Danta said.

That said, it’s the dogs’ house, Robertshaw and Danta are just living in it.

“They have full run of our house. The beds, the furniture, we have doggie doors. We have dogs from four pounds to 90 pounds, and they all live in harmony.”
