The grand opening of Pub on the Drive’s new patio was just that: grand. But an unforeseen issue briefly tamped down enthusiasm. On Aug. 16, co-owner Mike Connell and his crew cut the red ribbon and officially opened their new back patio area, called Pride Hub at Pub On the Drive.
The new space is beautiful, with sleek wood walls, a large bar, a translucent cover and ceiling fans to keep things cool, six televisions, and seating for about 75. The VIP party was packed with invited guests including loyal customers, local luminaries, and media.
The area was crowded for the party, but movement and flow through the space was as smooth as the atmosphere was festive. The bar is long enough for three to four bartenders to work quickly and comfortably without stepping on each other.
The Pub is a prolific programmer of entertainment. That will continue inside, but Connell says this space will be different from the rest of the establishment. Pride Hub will be just for people who want to come and have a meal and talk without loud music or performances.
Problems came the next night during the public grand opening.

InTarotGate by Dooney
As August comes to a close, it seems like we have constantly battled for our own right to exist, at times experiencing the defeat of the Five of Swords firsthand and at others feeling like our small victories can only be short-lived. Yet we rise above the mire of wins and losses and from the anguish of the Three of Swords with the knowledge of what lies ahead, of the choices we will have to make each step of the way.
The Chariot signals a period of major forward momentum, marking a moment in time when we will launch, unabated, to reshape our political landscape with a loud crush of bones underfoot as our enemies’ fear-driven efforts to reduce us actually work in our favor, strengthening us and teaching us all their weaknesses.
