Wilton Manors Art Week Set to Dazzle Nov. 6–9

By John Hayden

Lord Thunderbunny sits along Wilton Drive, a benevolent ruler of all he surveys. Soon, the city’s artistic anchor will help usher in a new event spotlighting the area’s talent.

Wilton Manors Art Week (WMAW) debuts Nov. 6-9 with the goal of letting the rest of the world know about our incredible arts scene.

“We are excited,” local artist Dennis Dean said. “I think this could be a destination for everyone because there’s so much to offer.”

Art is a broad term, and WMAW seeks to be all encompassing. The city’s 16 galleries and three theaters are obvious showcases. But there will be culinary creations, cocktail garnishes galore, readings by renown authors and more. Wilton Manors Arts District (WMAD) President, Matteo Trisolini, said the bold move is an investment in the city’s cultural future.

“This festival, which we aim to become a staple in Wilton Manors’ offerings to the public, represents the beginning of establishing Wilton Manors as an art and culture tourist destination alongside being the entertainment capital it already is.”

Dean curates the ArtsUnited gallery on Dixie Hwy., which has big plans for the week including a cooking exhibition, a reading, and a 3D exhibit. “I’m all about uniting the arts. I wanted to do five different forms of art.”

WMAW starts with the opening night party at Hunters at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 and wraps Sunday night with the official closing party at the city’s newest venue, Gray Box Theater. The parties bookend dozens of events, including live shows at Island City Stage and The Foundry theaters.

There’s a wine and bites pairing workshop, a paint splatter party, a live model drawing session and much more.
